How Much Do Moving Companies Charge For an Interstate or a Long Distance Move?

A move that consists of transferring to another state, or at a distance longer than approximately 100 miles can already be considered as an interstate (long distance) moving request, and as such are more expensive as compared to a local move.

Movers normally charge according to the weight or volume of your household possessions, and it also varies in charges per pound if the move is considered to be local or long distance. If you decide to go with a moving company that will charge per weight, the average charge is around $.50 per pound, and this excludes packing. That move will be determined instantly when you contact the moving company either by phone or by email. An inventory list will be requested for their calculations and an estimate will be given.

Ideally, charging by weight is the better choice since it will allow you the closest estimate to determining your moving cost. Moving companies that charge by volume are unable to provide exact estimates because the volume of your household possessions is checked by the crew that puts your goods in the truck. There is a great difference in the cost of charging by cubic feet in between the moving company and the crew, and a greater risk to be scammed is possible in this way.
